Jewish Marriages

Judaism teaches that marriage is a mitzvah, a Divine connection or commandment, established by G-d at the time of creation, “It is not good for man to be alone. Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother, and cling to his wife . . . “ (Genesis 2:18-24).

Through a proper Jewish marriage, G-d’s presence is able to dwell between husband and wife, and they bring sanctity into their home and the world. Handed down over thousands of years, Jewish law and tradition provides important guidelines on how to sanctify a Jewish marriage in a kosher manner.

Due to communist religious oppression, many Russian Jewish immigrants were denied a proper Jewish wedding under the “Chuppah.” Due to the staunchly anti-religious policies of communist Russian, a population of Soviet Jews has grown up without recourse to Jewish institutions and education. Numerous couples, some young, some middle aged, and some very old have lived together as husband and wife for years without a truly Jewish sanctification of their marriage.

Jewish couples now want to perform their marriage in a traditional way here in America. FREE arranges weddings for Russian immigrants of all ages in full accordance with the Torah, as well as a joyous family celebration to follow the ceremony. In addition, FREE provides classes to couples on the inner meaning of the Chuppah, Jewish ways of marriage, and family purity.
