Summer Camps

Summer Camps

The summer vacation from school is a critical time in youth development. The time can be blessed with growing, learning, and enjoying life’s opportunities. Summer can also be a time of concern for parents. How to constructively fill their children’s time? Where to find a place that caters to children who don’t fully speak English? What about the enormous expense?

In an effort to answer these questions and provide each child a once in a lifetime experience, FREE operates Jewish overnight and day camps, as well as a placement service to refer parents to the right camp to meet each child’s needs. FREE’s camps are staffed with Russian speaking counselors who specialize in the special needs of newly arrived Russian families. The counselors give individualized attention to each camper, and are devoted to providing the greatest summer experience possible. The result is eight full weeks of running, jumping, swimming, singing and making friends.

In addition to the traditional dose of sports, swimming, creative arts, and outings, campers learn about their Jewish heritage. Campers learn Hebrew, Jewish history, and about holidays and traditions in a fun-filled and relaxed environment. Campers leave with strengthened Jewish identity, an enhanced ability to befriend others, and a sense of purpose in today’s world.

Camp FREE Gan Israel is growing in both programming and popularity, drawing campers from all over the Tri-State Area. FREE produces a summer camp that is simultaneously fun and spiritual for youth. The strong thirst for Judaism is evident by the fact that the children keep coming back, year after year.

In an effort not to lose the deep and positive feelings generated during the summer, FREE’s staff keeps in close contact with former campers throughout the year. Many campers enroll in FREE’s elementary and high schoolsFREE’s Youth Club, and the FREE after school programs. In addition, regular trips, activities, Shabbatons, and camp reunions are planned to keep the spiritual and moral gains of the camp spirit alive
