This week, the F.R.E.E. Publishing House, the publishing arm of Friends of Refugees of Eastern Europe, in a cooperative effort between the Lechaim Publishing House (Moscow) and the SHAMIR Publishing House (Jerusalem) have issued for the first time the ” Selichot” (Prayers of Repentance) with a modern Russian translation, all in a clear new Russian and Hebrew typesetting.
On the last Saturday night before Rosh Hashanah, corresponding this year to September 8, 2007 after midnight, Jews around the world will gather to recite the penitential prayers which usher in the Days of Awe – Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur and the intervening days. This new rendition will make the saying of Selichot meaningful to those not fluent in Hebrew and, ultimately, it will intensify the entire High Holiday experience.
The latest initiative rounds out a good number of publications issued over the past few months, aimed at assisting Russian Jews to become familiar with the traditions and beautiful heritage of Judaism.
Printed on high-quality paper, the top-notch production has resulted through the use of state-of-the-art typographical technologies.
