New Hagaddah Shel Pesach With Russian Translation

The Hebrew-Russian Hagaddah published by FREE (Friends of Refugees of Eastern Europe) has been entirely reset in a clear, crisp typeface. The Russian translation, while based on the original edition, has been entirely revised to read more smoothly. Detailed instructions have been added to serve as a precise guide to practice and custom at every point of the Seder. A highly interesting, comprehensive introduction has been added to explain the background of the Passover holiday, its history and laws. In addition, included is a letter of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, zt”l, who felt deeply for the plight of Russian-speaking Jews and accomplished much on their behalf. It gives a practical lesson reflecting this holiday’s relevance now, 3300 years later.

“The first edition of this Haggadah, published in 1974, was a breakthrough and cause for celebration,” says Rabbi Mayer Okunov, chairman of F.R.E.E. “It was the first-ever translation of a Jewish work to be published in the modern Russian language. It was the initial publication of the FREE Publishing House, the world’s first publisher of authentic Jewish literature in modern Russian, founded by the “Friends of Refugees of Eastern Europe”.

This new edition of the Russian Haggadah comes on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of FREE’s founding by a group of young graduates of the Soviet Union’s chassidic underground.
